Purpose: Bercovich Baseball originated in 1927 as the philantropic Bercovich family (owners of Bercovich Furniture in Oakland) helped inner city youth through sponsoring baseball teams. Countless players have been affected by Bercovich. The Bercovich Baseball Foundation (BBF) is a 501(c)3 non profit created to continue the legacy of Bercovich by engaging and mentoring youth players regardless of socio economic status. This fundraiser aims to help players in need as well as fundraise for the Upper and Lower Division home field at Acalanes HS.
Overview: Players pour their hearts out over the year and over their careers. HF wants to honor players for their outstanding leadership on their teams. Additionally, a few individuals will be voted into the new “HF Hall of Fame” for their contributions to Headfirst Baseball on and/or off the field. HF also wants to recognize players in the organization who achieved significant goals during the past year including college commitments, pro contracts, etc.
Format: There is a $30 donation per ticket . The evening includes dinner (catered by Strizzis), a guest speaker, team baskets, silent auction, a bar for the adults, award presentation and more. Guest Speaker: Jimmy Meuel, one of the HOF Inductees, will be the honorary speaker. A HF alumnus as a player and coach, Meuel's baseball background as a staff member or coach includes UCSD (Div 2), Menlo (Div 3 to NAIA), USF (Div 1), UC Davis (Div 1) and currently San Jose St (Div 1).
